సుప్రీంకోర్టు తదుపరి ప్రధాన న్యాయమూర్తి (Chief Justice of India - CJI) గా జస్టిస్ సూర్య కాంత్ పేరును ప్రస్తుత సీజేఐ జస్టిస్ బి.ఆర్. గవాయి కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వానికి సిఫారసు చేశారు.

ప్రమాణ స్వీకారం: జస్టిస్ సూర్య కాంత్ గారు నవంబర్ 24, 2025న సుప్రీంకోర్టు ప్రధాన న్యాయమూర్తిగా ప్రమాణ స్వీకారం చేయనున్నారు.
పదవీకాలం: ఆయన ఫిబ్రవరి 9, 2027 వరకు సుప్రీంకోర్టు ప్రధాన న్యాయమూర్తిగా పదవిలో కొనసాగనున్నారు.
ప్రస్తుతం జస్టిస్ సూర్య కాంత్ సుప్రీంకోర్టులో సీనియర్ న్యాయమూర్తిగా ఉన్నారు. సీజేఐగా ఆయన నియామకంతో అత్యున్నత న్యాయస్థానం పర్యవేక్షణ బాధ్యతలు ఆయన భుజస్కందాలపైకి రానున్నాయి.
